What We Do

Flat Slab Sawing in Calgary

Flat sawing — also called slab sawing or road sawing — is the most common form of concrete cutting. It's how you open a slab for plumbing, utilities, repairs, or demolition.

Our walk-behind and ride-on flat saws use diamond-tipped blades to cut horizontal concrete and asphalt surfaces with surgical precision. The result is a clean, straight kerf that other trades can work around without issue.

We cut to depth — from a shallow 1-inch control joint score to a full 16-inch pass through thick industrial slabs. Every job starts with a utility scan or confirmation of cleared lines so we never hit what shouldn't be hit.

Calgary's construction environment is tough on concrete: freeze-thaw cycles crack slabs, rebar density varies by decade and by builder, and older industrial sites can throw up unexpected aggregate. We've cut it all.

Unlike generalist contractors who add concrete cutting as a side service, this is all we do. That means better equipment, sharper blades, and a crew that can read a slab and adapt on the fly.

Applications

Where We Saw Concrete in Calgary

From new construction to renovation, flat sawing covers a huge range of project types.

01

Utility Trenching

Opening concrete floors for new plumbing drains, gas lines, electrical conduit, or in-floor heating. Clean cuts mean less demo, less fill, and less disruption.

02

Control Joints

Cutting expansion and control joints into freshly poured or existing slabs to manage cracking. Depth and spacing done to spec — critical for long-term slab performance.

03

Slab Removal

Cutting slabs into manageable sections for removal — basement floors, garage pads, patios, and driveways. Reduces hammer time and keeps the perimeter intact.

04

Asphalt Sawing

Precision cuts in asphalt for utility repairs, pavement patching, parking lot modifications, and driveway alterations. Same diamond-blade approach, same clean result.

05

Floor Levelling Prep

Scoring and sectioning uneven slabs before grinding or topping application. Straight saw lines help contractors achieve the flatness required for flooring finishes.

06

New Construction

Cutting reserved sleeves, post-pour access points, and expansion relief joints on new builds before trades need to run their lines. Coordinated with your schedule.

FAQ

Concrete Sawing Questions

How deep can you saw concrete?

Our flat saws can cut up to 16 inches deep in a single pass. Standard residential basement slabs (4–6 inches) are typically completed in one pass. Thicker industrial pads may require multiple passes or blade changes.

Can you cut concrete in Calgary winters?

Yes. We adapt our method to temperature conditions — dry cutting in freezing weather to avoid slurry freeze, and wet cutting in warmer months for dust control. Cold weather does not stop us.

Do you cut asphalt too?

Yes — asphalt cutting uses the same flat saw setup. We regularly cut asphalt for utility trenching, parking lot repairs, driveway modifications, and pavement patching across Calgary.

Do I need to mark utilities before you arrive?

Yes — all underground utilities must be located before we cut. We can work with your Alberta One-Call locate ticket or you can have a private locator on site. We do not cut into uncleared areas.

How do you handle concrete dust?

Wet cutting uses water to suppress dust and cool the blade. On sites where water is a concern, we use industrial HEPA vacuum attachments for dry dust control. We clean up before we leave.
